All COTF models to compete for Super2 title from 2023

The Dunlop Super2 Series will welcome the ZB Commodore and Car of the Future Ford Mustang from 2023 following approval from the Supercars Commission.

The two models are currently used in the Repco Supercars Championship but will be replaced by the Gen3 Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro from the start of next year.

In July of 2021, it was announced that the ZB Commodore and Car of the Future Ford Mustang will join the Super2 grid from 2023 onwards.

Today, the Commission has confirmed that both models will now be eligible to race against all other Car of the Future models currently racing in the Dunlop Super2 Series which include the FGX Falcon, VF Commodore, and Nissan Altima (as well as the Mercedes E63 AMG and Volvo S60 which are currently eligible for Super2).

The Commission has also ruled that the FG Falcon and VE Commodore Project Blueprint Cars currently raced in the Dunlop Super3 Series will remain eligible for the third tier competition, which will continue to race on a combined grid with the Dunlop Super2 Series.

Supercars Head of Motorsport Adrian Burgess said: "After speaking with both Repco Supercars Championship and Dunlop Super2 Series teams, we are aware that some are ready to commit to ZB Commodores and Ford Mustangs immediately, while others will remain committed to current programs in 2023.

"This decision benefits teams in both of those positions and paves the way for more teams and drivers to enter our second-tier competition in 2023.

"This combined Dunlop Super2/Dunlop Super3 Series category gives drivers the opportunity to become more familiar with how to race Supercars. The primary focus for us is around the driver pathway, a commitment which Dunlop shares."

The combined Dunlop Super2 and Dunlop Super3 Series will return to the grid this weekend at the NTI Townsville 500.

The event will be broadcast live on Foxtel, the Seven Network and streamed live on Kayo.
