The 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series is already shaping up to be an unpredictable season, as two races brought two completely different groups of front runners to the fore.
Through it all, Jordyn Sinni came out the other side to claim his maiden round victory in the category, and give reigning Super2 teams' champions Eggleston Motorsport the perfect start as they aim to continue their perfect record in the Super2 Teams Championship.
Whilst the battle for the Dunlop Super2 Series is always fiercely contested among some of the most talented young prospects in Australian motorsport, the Teams Championship is a relatively new addition.
Introduced in 2023, Eggleston Motorsport have won the teams' championship in the development series on both occasions, and with a strong five-car squad assembled in 2025, shape as the team to beat once again.
Before we dive into how the Super2 teams' championship looks after Round 1 of 6 in Sydney, there are a few differences from how the teams' championship is run in the Repco Supercars Championship.
How does the Super2 Series teams' championship work?
Long-time fans of the Repco Supercars Championship will be familiar with the main game's running of the teams' championship since being introduced as an award based on points scored in 2005.
In the main game, both cars run by a team count towards the points total, with four car teams being split into two separate teams, with the Live Pit Lane introduced last year based off teams points as of the start of an event.
The Dunlop Super2 Series Teams Championship is run a little bit differently to give all entrants an equal chance at winning the the title, no matter the size of their operations.
Found in Division D of the 2025 Supercars Operations Manual, Article D 14.7.3 reads as follows:
14.7.3 The maximum number of Cars eligible to score points for a Team in the overall Super2 Teams Championship is one (1).
14.7.3.1 The Car from each Team with the most points from a Round will be used to form the total Team points of the Super2 Teams Championship.
With teams running anywhere between five cars and one car this season, having only the best performing car from each team scoring points on any given weekend will provide every entrant with an equal chance of winning the Super2 teams' championship.
The driver who scores points for their respective team can change round-on-round depending on who scores the most points for their team in a weekend.
Using Eggleston as an example, Sinni's round-winning points haul in Sydney was used for their points tally last weekend, however if Zach Bates was to win the next round in Tasmania, then his points would be added to the tally, and so on and so forth.
Who scored points in Sydney?
The top five drivers in the round points all represented different teams, with Sinni (Eggleston), Cameron McLeod (Kelly), Ben Gomersall (Triple Eight), Rylan Gray (Tickford), and Jobe Stewart (Image/Erebus) all getting their respective teams off to strong starts.
Ninth for the round was Brad Jones Racing recruit, Brad Vaughan, who recovered from a disastrous Saturday with a runner-up finish on Sunday, a mirror image of Stewart's weekend for Image Racing.
Just behind BJR in seventh is Anderson Motorsport, with impressive Kiwi rookie Ayrton Hodson's strong pace not quite converting into the results he or the team would've wanted.
After winning the drivers title with Zach Bates last year, the start to 2025 is not the one that Walkinshaw Andretti United would've wanted, with rookie Matt Hillyer's points haul leaving WAU mired in eighth.
The only single car team at Sydney Motorsport Park, a Sunday mechanical retirement for Bailey Sweeny has left the team last in the teams standings, and almost 200 points off the pace.
