Seven drivers set to battle it out for 2024 Dunlop Super2 Series in Adelaide

The 2024 Dunlop Super2 Series has been one of the most competitive seasons in the history of the development series, with seven drivers in mathematical contention for the title heading into the final round.
With main game teams such as Walkinshaw Andretti United and Tickford running multi-car entries, a large crop of rookies joining the field, and reigning champion Kai Allen returning to defend his crown, 2024 has arguably proven to be more competitive than anticipated.
Allen is once again in serious contention alongside WAU's Zach Bates and Kelly Racing's Aaron Cameron, who both surged ahead of the Eggleston Motorsport ace after a disastrous Repco Bathurst 1000 weekend.
However, Allen's Bathurst nightmare also brought Max Vidau, Jarrod Hughes, Brad Vaughan, and Jobe Stewart back into mathematical contention heading to the unforgiving streets of Adelaide.
Seven drivers being in mathematical title contention is the highest number of drivers in contention going into the final round of an undisrupted Super2 Series since 2005, when Dean Canto claimed his second development series crown at Phillip Island.
Canto led the series ahead of Warren Luff, Gary MacDonald, Phillip Scifleet, Tony D'Alberto, Adam Macrow, and the late Mark Porter after the category's first points paying round at the Bathurst 1000, with Canto claiming what remains Dick Johnson Racing's only Super2 crown.
The 2001 title also saw seven drivers in contention at the final round, with Paul Dumbrell, eventual series winner Simon Wills, David Parsons, Owen Kelly, Leanne Ferrier, the late Dale Brede, and current Image Racing team owner Terry Wyhoon all in contention.
Two seasons have seen more than seven drivers enter the final round as mathematical title contenders, one of which remains the only time in Supercar/Super2 history that a season has been decided on a tiebreaker.
The 2020 Super2 Series was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with only three rounds being held to constitute a national series.
Thomas Randle, Will Brown, Brodie Kostecki, Jayden Ojeda, Jordan Boys, Broc Feeney, Angelo Mouzouris, Matt Chahda, and Zak Best all had a chance of claiming the title at Bathurst, with Randle coming out on top.
2004 remains one of the most remarkable seasons in Supercars history, with eight drivers entering the sixth and final round at Mallala in South Australia with a mathematical chance at victory.
Kelly and Porter were once again factors this season, alongside Luke Youlden, Andrew Jones, Matthew White, Jose Fernandez, Cameron McLean, and Grant Elliott.
Youlden and Jones ended the season tied on 945 points apiece, with Jones claiming the crown on a countback having won two rounds at Winton and Sydney Motorsport Park respectively, whilst Youlden didn't win a round all year.
The 25th season of the Dunlop Super2 Series will conclude at the VAILO Adelaide 500 from November 14-17. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
