V8 Supercars have rallied behind Tasmania’s disadvantaged youth, by naming Whitelion as its chosen charity for this month’s Tyrepower Tasmania 400 at Symmons Plains.
The move will enable the charity, which helps youth at risk through a variety of mentoring, employment and education programs, raise valuable funds throughout Tasmania’s biggest annual sporting event.
V8 Supercars Director-Promoted Events Mark Perry said it was a great opportunity for the sport to support the work of Whitelion.
“Whitelion do a fantastic job helping youth at risk through a number of programs,” said Perry.
“The organisation helps place disadvantaged youth into programs that re-engage with the community as well as teaching them valuable skills.
“We are pleased to be partnering with an organisation which has a strong community and youth focus in Launceston and throughout Tasmania.”
Whitelion Tasmania Manager Lyndon Stevenson said it was an honour to be selected as the V8 Supercars official charity.
“We are delighted to be chosen for Tasmania’s biggest annual sporting event, it’s humbling to know that V8 Supercars believe in our efforts to assist Tasmania’s disadvantaged youth,” Stevenson said.
“We will have several volunteers rattling tins around the circuit during the event and I encourage all racegoers to give generously and help us help the youth in our community.”
Whitelion Tasmania volunteers will be trackside at the Tyrepower Tasmania 400, March 28-30. Kids 14 and under receive free admission with a paying adult – tickets are available for the event now.
