Chaz Mostert put together arguably his most complete season yet in Supercars

As 2024 winds down, Supercars.com is ranking the top 10 drivers of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship, continuing with Chaz Mostert, who comes in as our #2.

For so long in 2024, it looked like Chaz Mostert could finally end his long wait for a Repco Supercars Championship title victory.

While it didn't come to fruition, the two-time Bathurst winner put together arguably his most complete season yet as a driver, but on a number of occasions, it just wasn't meant to be.

Wins, podiums, poles. Mostert did it all, and for a time, split the Triple Eight drivers, and was within a heartbeat of taking the championship lead. For a driver over 300 races into his career, it was proof that the best could be yet to come.

Chaz Mostert's season stats

Championship position: 2nd

Best finish: 1st (Perth, Sydney 2x)

Average finish: 6.17

Race head-to-head with teammate: 22-2

Podiums: 11

Best start: 1st (Melbourne, Perth)

Average start: 6.46

Qualifying head-to-head with teammate: 21-3

Why we picked him

Mostert was competitive at every circuit in 2024, even if he sometimes didn't have luck on his side. Podiums in Bathurst and Melbourne had Mostert in the top three early, and he missed out on victory in New Zealand after losing a wheel. He finally broke through in Perth after taking a first pole in three years in Melbourne, but Super Soft dramas for Walkinshaw Andretti United in Darwin set him back, despite a stunning 22nd-to-fifth recovery in the opener. Then, Mostert really turned it on, claiming five straight podiums, including a Sydney sweep, to sit just 81 points behind Will Brown with four rounds left. The wheels fell off at WAU, with a "diabolical" Sandown followed by a largely nondescript Bathurst, before gear sensor and refuelling disasters in Surfers Paradise ended his hopes. His response? Charging from pit lane to 13th in Adelaide, before leading the finale into the closing laps before being wiped out by Broc Feeney.

What we expect next season

It was a blockbuster year for 'Mozzie', in his 11th full season. He was a star in the making in his early 20s, and spent his late 20s rebuilding WAU. Now, given driver and team are in a position of strength, WAU has to get rid of the wobbles that cost Mostert dearly this year. If they can do that, and ensure the incoming Toyota programme isn't too much of a distraction, there's no knowing how high Mostert could fly in '25.
