Late incident denies Chaz Mostert an IMSA podium in Detroit
Mostert Lexus was on course for podium in class before late clash
Supercars champion resumes 2026 season in Darwin on June 19-21
Supercars champion Chaz Mostert has fallen agonisingly short of a podium in his IMSA SportsCar Championship cameo in Detroit.
The Walkinshaw TWG Racing star flew to the United States after last weekend’s Tasmania Supercars round to contest the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic.
Mostert, 34, shared the #15 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC-F with Aaron Telitz, and the duo were on course for a podium in the race.
The Mostert/Telitz car was fourth in GTD Pro before the Safety Car was deployed for debris with just under 20 minutes remaining.
The sister #14 Vasser Sullivan Racing Lexus RC-F of Jack Hawksworth was penalized over a clash with Antonio Garcia’s #3 Pratt Miller Motorsports Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
That promoted the Mostert/Telitz car into the podium positions, with another caution called when Nick Tandy crashed his #77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.
On the restart, Telitz clashed with Nicky Catsburg’s Corvette. The Mostert/Telitz car sustained right front damage, was forced into the pits, and wasn’t classified.
Garcia and Alexander Sims claimed the GTD Pro win, with the outright win going to Earl Bamber and Jack Aitken in the #31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R Hypercar.
The IMSA season resumes with the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen from Watkins Glen International on June 28.
Mostert will resume his 2026 Supercars campaign at the betr Darwin Triple Crown on June 19-21. International fans can watch the Supercars action live on SuperView.
