The Holden Supercar livery that won't run on track

There have been plenty of eye-catching liveries on Holden Commodore Supercars over the years, but this gold and black colour scheme is one that will never see the racetrack.

This special ‘End of an Era’ livery was produced on the most winning car in championship history – the Commodore VF that won 108 races between 2013 and 2017 – by former GM Holden designer Peter Hughes.

It was specially produced for a run of model cars to celebrate the history of Holden in the Australian Touring Car/Supercars Championship.

Now available to order here from the V8 Sleuth SuperStore in three different scales with limited stock available, the models – in 1:12, 1:18 and 1:43 scale – commemorate Holden’s significant achievements across the 60-plus year history of the championship.

Hughes, a GM Automotive Designer for many years and the man who has designed many of the Holden’s famous race winning liveries, worked in collaboration with Authentic Collectables to create the livery and model.

“With the model having such an important message and historical significance, I wanted to deliver a look for collectors that just screamed ‘Holden Forever’,” Hughes said.

“Because of that, the livery itself will feel pretty familiar to the Holden Motorsport fan, with traditional use and placement of the racing lion on the hood and rear doors. I dabbled with other ideas but it just had to be this way for the end of an era.

“The real individual part of this livery is the unique ‘tribute gold‘, chosen to compliment the contrasting black. Not only does it look very special, it also signifies that the Holden Era was also a ‘Golden Era’ in Australian motorsport history.”

The Holden brand bowed out of Supercars at the end of 2022 with a final tally of 617 championship race wins.

Its place as General Motors’ representative in the Repco Supercars Championship has been filled by the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which will be back in action for the opening round of this year’s championship at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 on February 23-25.
