  • Nick Percat has gained 19 spots year-on-year

  • Percat, in sixth, was 25th and last after Round 3 in 2024

  • Cam Waters, Tim Slade have lost eight positions

Nick Percat is the biggest winner of the 2024 season so far, against his 2023 campaign, with the Matt Stone Racing recruit jumping a whopping 19 positions.

Percat endured a much-maligned time at Walkinshaw Andretti United, and was 25th and last after three rounds in 2023. Come 2024, and Percat is sixth in the points, with a race win to boot, following Round 3 of the season.

Percat's 19-position gain could have been even better had he not had to fight through the field at the ITM Taupō Super400 after starting last for both races. The 2011 Bathurst winner was fourth in the points after the Grand Prix, where he claimed his first win since 2020.

Heading to the next round in Perth, Supercars.com looks through which drivers have risen and fallen year-on-year after a quarter of the season.

Percat is sixth, with his MSR teammate Cameron Hill also eight positions better than his 2023 placing after three rounds. Hill was a lowly 24th after Round 3 last year, and sits 16th heading to the next round in Perth.

Hill's fellow second-year driver Matt Payne, along with Payne's Ford rivals Anton De Pasquale and Thomas Randle, are also seven places better off.

Championship leader Will Brown and teammate Broc Feeney, first and second in the points, have both gained three positions, while Mark Winterbottom has moved forward four places, having passed more cars than any other driver through three rounds.

In a slump

First lap: Waters, Slade collide in chaotic start

The biggest losers in 2024 so far are Cam Waters and Tim Slade, with DNFs ensuring both drivers have lost eighth positions year-on-year. Waters was seventh in 2023, and a race winner, after Round 3 last year.

This year, Waters has lost a wheel in Bathurst, crashed out fighting Payne in Melbourne, and was hit off the pole in New Zealand. On the latter occasion, Waters was hit by Slade, who despite leading teammate James Golding in the head-to-head stakes, sits 22nd overall.

It's important to note that reigning champion Brodie Kostecki led the points after Round 3 last year, but has only completed one round so far in 2024.

The 2024 season will resume at the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint in May 17-19. Tickets for the Perth event are on sale now. International viewers can follow all the action on Superview.
