Chaz Mostert, James Courtney buried the hatchet after Taupō clash

Star drivers shared rental car to Ford driver retreat in Tasmania
A cancelled flight and rental car ride helped Chaz Mostert and James Courtney "smooth over" a tangle in Taupō that left the former incensed.
Mostert and Courtney were joined by reigning champion Will Brown on the latest Drivers Only episode, where the trio shared several laughs, stories and discussed news of the sport.
One point of discussion was the Ford driver retreat on the eve of the Tasmania round, where all Mustang Supercars drivers came together in Freycinet.
A flight out of Queensland was cancelled in the lead-up to the retreat, seeing Mostert and Courtney share a rental car to the retreat location.
The trip came after an excerpt of Mostert’s expletive-laden ream radio was posted to Supercars’ social channels, showing the Walkinshaw Andretti United star’s dismay over a clash with Courtney.
“Chaz and my flight was late out of Brisbane, got cancelled,” Courtney said.
“Our teammates flew from Melbourne to Tassie together, so they drove out there together. So we ended up having to get in the car together, and it was right after the ‘James effin' Courtney' thing came out.
“It was pretty funny.”
With the duo’s flight cancelled, their Melbourne-based teammates Ryan Wood and Aaron Cameron shared a trip of their own.
Mostert joked that Wood emerged from the trip knowing a new side to Cameron, given the trip took nearly three hours.
Coincidentally, Mostert and Courtney were involved in a concertina collision just days later in Tasmania, which saw Mostert hit with a penalty.
“There was probably more bonding in the rental car than the camp side of things,” Mostert said.
“James and I basically had to go in a car together, then Woody and Aaron went. Woody said, ‘Wow, I really know a side of Aaron I didn’t really know before, because we spent two and a half hours in a hire car’.
“It was pretty good, got rid of the point of the ‘JFC’ comment, so we smoothed that over on the way out.”
The new Drivers Only episode is out now via Supercars’ channels and the Listnr platform.
