Finally, Will Davison can have a breather 13 years after his Townsville burnout crash
Finally, finally Will Davison can have a breather from his Townsville burnout disaster, after Brodie Kostecki met the fence.
Shell V-Power Racing Team star Kostecki crushed the field in Sunday’s NTI Townsville 500 finale, overhauling Cam Waters to win Race 22.
After being flawless in the race, it unravelled for Kostecki in his post-race celebrations when he clouted the wall during his victory celebrations.
Kostecki laughed off the incident, but it meant a good deal to Davison, who crashed during a burnout of his own at the same spot in 2013.
Davison — who will race alongside Matt Payne in the 2026 enduros — was relieved to have his moment finally take a back seat, although he missed Kostecki’s crash altogether.
“I was in the toilet and I could hear a heap of limiter bashing going on,” Davison told Supercars’ Equip Super Cool Down Lap podcast.
“Then I heard my name, and I just bolted out, and I'm was like, 'Please, please tell me someone's gonna rip someone else for the next 10 years and not me’.
"But his was pretty spectacular.”
On social media, Kostecki joked he "did a Davo," with Davison replying: "Thank you for joining me on the Honorary List, it’s been quite lonely. Guaranteed highlights for years."
Davison won in 2013 for Ford Performance Racing, now known as Tickford Racing.
The third-generation racer was completing circlework of his own back in 2013 when he speared into the same wall Kostecki met on Sunday.
Where Kostecki got away with cosmetic damage, Davison belted the rear wing from his Falcon back in 2013.
“He had a few more style points than mine. Mine was a bit clumsy,” two-time Bathurst winner Davison laughed.
"Of course he got away with it. I smacked my wing up.”T
he 2026 Supercars season resumes in Perth on July 31-August 2.
