Walkinshaw TWG penalties impact teams' championship
Toyota squad cops two points penalties after GC500 finale
Tickford Racing leads WTWGR by 34 points heading to Sandown
Dual points penalties after the Gold Coast finale have prevented Walkinshaw TWG Racing from overtaking Tickford Racing in the teams' championship.
The Toyota squad had a banner weekend on Chaz Mostert's side of the garage, the reigning Supercars champion backing up Saturday victory with a Sunday podium.
Ryan Wood, however, was eliminated from Finals contention after a controversial end to the race, which was headlined by late fuel stops for Camaros that bumped Anton De Pasquale up the order.
Confirmed by Motorsport Australia on Monday, both WTWGR and Blanchard Racing Team received 30-point penalties after the fuel hose was still connected when the car was dropped from the air jacks.
BRT was penalised over a stop for James Golding, who finished eighth.
WTWGR was also deducted 30 points for a procedural breach, regarding notifying officials of the fuel transferred to Cars 1 and 2 within five laps of the pit stop, per the pre-event instructions to teams.
The rule comes as Supercars moves to monitor fuel consumption rates.
The 50-point loss pushed WTWGR below Tickford Racing, which also has a car in the Semi Final in Cam Waters.
Heading to Sandown, WTWGR is just 34 points behind Tickford, while Red Bull Ampol Racing is now only 102 points behind long time leaders Penrite Racing.
Track action at Sandown commences on Friday November 6.
