Walkinshaw TWG Racing swings double change
Chaz Mostert, Ryan Wood Supras fitted with spare engines
Wood qualified fourth, Mostert ninth on Saturday
Walkinshaw TWG Racing has entered Saturday off the back of dual engine changes.
The Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood Supras are contesting Saturday’s NTI Townsville 500 action with spare engines.
The team confirmed to Supercars.com that both changes were as a precaution.
The reigning championship-winning squad starred on Friday through Chaz Mostert, who was pleased with fifth in the race won by Cam Waters.
Mostert managed to bring home crucial points to lift himself off of the Finals bubble, making a crucial decision to avoid a clash with Matt Payne in the process.
The Toyota homologation team is working through engine reliability amid the Supra program, which is still in its infancy in Supercars.
The team has already identified the issue, namely regarding the valvetrain, with a solution set to be in place by October’s Repco Bathurst 1000.
Mostert had already impressed to fourth in Friday qualifying despite carrying a malfunctioning cam position sensor late in the session.
Penrite Racing also monitored and resolved suspected concerns with Payne’s Ford V8 motor, which is new for this weekend’s event.
Sunday’s race will commence at 3:05pm AEST.
