Flawless Feeney, Triple Eight victorious to open 2026

Broc Feeney has begun his 2026 redemption tour in emphatic fashion, winning the opening race of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship at the DUNLOP Sydney 500.

Triple Eight broke a potential Blanchard Racing Team fairytale with a superior pit stop, before Feeney went mistake-free the whole way home as Triple Eight won their first race for Ford since 2009.

Aaron Cameron was equally flawless as he led the opening stint, but had to settle for second, with James Golding completing a memorable day for BRT in third.

Feeney emphatically put any lingering thoughts about Adelaide behind him, as he claimed his first career victory for Ford.

"I remembered how to drive which was a good thing," said Feeney post-race.

"I can't be prouder of this team, the effort that's gone in over the last couple of months has been extraordinary.

"To join Ford once again, and get the first win is a dream come true, but to every single person at Triple Eight and Red Bull Ampol Racing, I can't thank you enough.

"This is an unreal start to our second life at Ford."

After a pre-race scare, Golding was allowed to keep his pole position, and lined alongside teammate Cameron on the front row for the first race of the season.

Golding flinched ever so briefly before the lights went out, leaving Cameron to swoop into the lead with a perfect launch to lead the first lap of the 2026 season.

The LIQUI MOLY BLAHST Mustang would be untroubled throughout the first stint, as Golding slowly fell back through the pack towards Broc Feeney in third.

The Red Bull Ampol Mustang had to fend off a spirited attack from Matt Payne, who launched his Penrite Mustang down the inside at Turn 6, only for Feeney to effect a crossover.

Another Ford star found himself in the bad books with Race Control, as Brodie Kostecki picked up the first penalty of the season after a bump and run on Zach Bates at Turn 9. Bates had lost three positions in the initial exchanges with a poor start.

With Golding starting to become vulnerable to Feeney, Triple Eight brought in the #88 in an attempt to undercut both of the leading BRT Fords.

Cameron responded from the lead the following lap, however a slight bobble on the right rear wheel was all the invitation Feeney needed to pounce, the reigning Repco Sprint Cup winner taking the lead for the first time.

Cam Waters also jumped forward in the pit shuffle, using an undercut to slice past the other BRT Ford of Golding, who was one of the last leaders to stop.

Payne found himself embroiled in a battle with a Triple Eight Mustang for the second time as he exited the pits on Lap 16, with Will Brown not afraid to use force to get by Payne as he attempted to get up to speed.

However, Payne decided to return the favour a few laps later at Turn 2, and then set about chasing down a podium berth.

Waters' grip on a podium was lost when James Golding made an impromptu pass entering Turn 9 on Lap 22, with superior drive traction out of the Turn 8 hairpin.

Payne also dived the inside of the Monster Mustang on the next lap at Turn 2, as Waters' early stop began to catch up with him.

But out in front, Feeney had stretched his lead out to 2.9s over Cameron at the end of the 26 lap affair, in what was still a milestone day for the Victorian, who claimed his first career podium.

Behind the podium places, Payne and Waters rounded out the top five. Anton De Pasquale finished sixth to lead the Chevrolet contingent ahead of Brown.

Andre Heimgartner secured a top 10 in Toyota's first start with eighth, with Thomas Randle and Kostecki completing the top 10, the latter having served his five second penalty at his pit stop.

Reigning champion Chaz Mostert was the first Walkinshaw Toyota home in 15th.

Cooper Murray was the sole retirement from the opening race of the year, as he suffered a steering failure and was forced into the garage at the end of Lap 8.

Supercars action begins again tomorrow with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 3:40pm local time.
