Campbell Logan claims first Super2 pole at wet Sandown
Series leader Lochie Dalton to start on front row
Title contender Brad Vaughan only 12th
Tickford's Campbell Logan has secured his maiden DUNLOP Super2 Series pole position as the heavens opened at Sandown.
Logan, who secured his maiden race and round wins at Round 2 in Darwin, has now added a maiden Boost Mobile Pole Award in what has been a breakout campaign.
The Tickford recruit will start alongside series leader Lochie Dalton on the front row of the grid for Race 1, despite sending his #56 Mustang through the mud at the final complex of corners in tricky conditions.
Early morning rain had soaked Sandown for the opening support races of the day, however the track had just about dried in ever-changing weather.
However, 10 minutes before the session another downpour, complete with small hail, put paid to any hopes of running a dry tyre, despite the rain having stopped by the time the 18-car field rolled out onto the circuit.
Brad Vaughan and Aaron Love both rolled around on dry tyres for his out lap before quickly swapping them out for wet tyres, as the field got to grips with a wet Sandown for the first time all weekend.
Matt Stone Racing's Ayrton Hodson had a minor off at Turn 3, whilst Alice Buckley also returned to the pits with mud splattered all over the front of her Commodore.
Despite the wet weather, Friday's dry form guide held true, with all four Tickford Mustangs and series leader Lochie Dalton all trading fastest times through the opening half of the session.
Campbell Logan was fast early, improving upon his 1:22.4897s to lower the marker to a 1:21.4081s, before his Tickford teammate Reuben Goodall moved the marker to a 1:20.7609s.
Dalton briefly went fastest on a 1:20.5317s, before Goodall almost broke through into the 1:19's on a 1:20.0251s.
Goodall and Dalton would both crack below a 1:20s, however it was Logan who would end up on pole with a 1:19.7869s, aided by another shower with six minutes remaining in the session.
Any final flyers would be ruined when the red flags flew with two and half minutes remaining, as Declan Fraser pulled his MSR Commodore off to the side of the back straight, with smoke filling the cabin. The 2022 champion will start 15th for the opening race.
Goodall will share the second row with Nash Morris, with Ben Gomersall completing the top five, putting all four Tickford cars inside the top five.
Dalton's nearest title challenger Vaughan could only manage 12th on the grid, more than a second off pole.
Race 1 will commence at 2:05pm AEDT.
