Lochie Dalton sweeps Darwin Super2 poles
BRT recruit recovers after throwing away Race 1 podium
Nash Morris to join former teammate on front row
Lochie Dalton is in unstoppable Boost Mobile Qualifying form in the DUNLOP Super2 Series.
The Blanchard Racing Team #43 will start from pole position for the third race on the trot in the Darwin finale, the series leader looking to bounce back after throwing away a podium in Race 1 on Saturday.
Dalton was on top of the timesheets throughout the majority of the session, setting the fastest of the banker runs in the first half of the 20-minute session, before backing it up on the all-important final runs.
The first two drivers to beat Dalton's mark were Eggleston Motorsport duo Elliott Cleary and Bayley Hall, with Team 18 wildcard recruit Hall punching in a 1:08.4358s to go top.
Dalton returned to the top on a 1:08.1029s, putting more than two and a half tenths on his former Tickford teammate Nash Morris, with Race 1 winner Campbell Logan slotting into third.
Just to put the result beyond doubt, Dalton improved further to a 1:08.0828s, with Logan promoting himself to a provisional front row, before Morris got back ahead on a fourth push lap, just 0.0921s behind Dalton.
With two Tickford Mustangs battling for pole, Ben Gomersall was stuck in pit lane with a starter motor issue, only managing to return to the track with little more than two minutes to go.
It wasn't enough time for the Queenslander to fire up his DUNLOP Hard tyres, the #6 Tickford Ford buried in 11th on the grid.
Logan will look to clean sweep the weekend from third on the grid, with title contender once again topping the Holden runners with fourth for Brad Jones Racing.
Vaughan's teammate Matt Hillyer will line up fifth alongside Reuben Goodall, with Hall, Cleary, Ayrton Hodson, and Jordyn Sinni rounding out the top 10.
Race 2 for the DUNLOP Super2 Series begins at 1:15pm local time/1:45pm AEST.
