Ryan Wood coy over speedy Friday as Toyota stares down history

Triple Eight star Will Brown second, just 0.003s behind Wood
For the first time in their brief Supercars history, Toyota has topped the timesheets, courtesy of Ryan Wood in front of his home crowd in Taupō.
The #2 Mobil 1 Truck Assist Supra finished Friday as the fastest car, pipping Red Bull Ampol Racing's Will Brown by just 0.0034s, and replicating his Practice 2-topping feats from 12 months ago.
Several predicted Toyota to be a major factor at the low-speed Taupō circuit, including Supercars data analyst Scott Sinclair, while Supercars.com picked a maiden Toyota win as one of their five bold predictions for the weekend.
However, the 22-year-old isn't getting ahead of himself, suggesting that his qualifying package is performing stronger than his race car, which will be put to the test in Saturday afternoon's rescheduled 200km race.
"To be honest I felt like we were there or thereabouts, but there's some standout cars in race trim," said the Kiwi on broadcast following the second session.
"I felt like our one lap speed was going to be okay, but we've definitely got a bit of work to do with the Truck Assist Supra, and I'm excited for tomorrow.
"It's a nice way to start, but everything can change tomorrow, including the weather. I think we ended last year's Practice 2 on top as well, so hopefully it's a good omen.
"I'd be interested to see where a guy like Matt Payne ended and a few others, because they went out a little bit earlier, so I think there's still some fast cars to come."
Impressively, Wood was some 0.975s ahead of reigning champion teammate Chaz Mostert, who wound up back in 15th, and the slowest of the five Supras.
Walkinshaw TWG Racing announced contract extensions for both drivers on Friday morning before track action commenced, with team owner Ryan Walkinshaw praising the combination of Mostert and Wood both inside and outside of the car.
Wood echoed the sentiment when asked about what it will take to get the #1 Supra back up towards the front of the pack.
"I think we always work well together, and the beautiful thing is when you've got one car that's fast, and you've got another car that's probably exploring or what have you, you can lean on the fast car," Wood said.
"We also learned a lot in between those sessions to take into that session, so vice versa you're always changing stuff.
"You just miss it a tiny bit, you're back in 18th and eight tenths off and you're like, 'I've done the lap of my life and I've got nothing to show for it.'
"Today is the 'Friday 500,' we'll just try and come back tomorrow with the same sort of package and try and put our best foot forward."
Following revisions made to the remainder of the weekend's schedule, Saturday's action begins with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 9:40am local time/7:40am AEST.
