Teams eager to avoid 'stumbling over each other' with Christchurch rules
Double stacking banned, Safety Car rules revised for this weekend’s event
400 points up for grabs across four Christchurch races
Supercars teams will be looking to avoid “stumbling over each other” with one-off pit lane and Safety Car rules in Christchurch.
The tight Ruapuna pit lane prompted revisions to the rules for the Christchurch round.
Firstly, a new regulation has been introduced for this weekend, stating teams can only have one car in pit lane at any one time.
Additionally, officials will also give teams the opportunity to pit both cars before deploying the Safety Car, which ensures cars aren’t compromised.
Delaying the deployment of the Safety Car means teams won’t have to worry about pitting one car, with another being stuck behind the Safety Car queue.
Drivers will still have to adhere to waved yellows, and speeds will be monitored by officials, per existing regulations.
The changes will have teams and their engineers working overtime to ensure their drivers aren’t compromised at any stage, should Safety Cars be deployed this weekend.
The stakes couldn’t be higher, given Supercars will contest four races across three days in Christchurch, with 400 points up for grabs across 560 kilometres of racing.
“Your engineers and your team are talking about strategies and contingencies,” Walkinshaw TWG CEO Bruce Stewart told media.
“You don’t want to stumble over each other, and you want to be as competitive with both cars as you can.
“It’s going to great to watch the first race, because I’m sure there'll be different thoughts up and down pit lane.”
The first Christchurch race commences at 4:35pm local/2:35pm AEST.
