Broc Feeney has emerged victorious in the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy for 2026 after a remarkable ending to the ITM Christchurch Super 440.
Toyota star Ryan Wood was on track to join Shane van Gisbergen, Scott McLaughlin and Matt Payne as Kiwi winners of the Trophy. However, it all changed in a heartbeat.
In 2026, the Richards Trophy was set to be awarded to Wood, who after 880 kilometres of racing, topped the points across the Taupō and Christchurch rounds.
However, Wood was struck down by a heartbreaking issue late on, in what was a mystery failure to his team.
A late Safety Car led to a collision between Brodie Kostecki and Chaz Mostert, gifting victory to Feeney.
First awarded in 2013, the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy was named after the late Kiwi, who raced full-time in Supercars and was a three-time Bathurst 1000 runner-up.
In 11 trips to New Zealand, the Jason Richards Trophy has now been won by eight different drivers.
Payne dominated the final two races of the ITM Christchurch Super 440 to finish third.
