Broc Feeney qualified for Grand Final, Will Brown eliminated
Triple Eight "didn't quite have enough pace," says Jamie Whincup
Track action in Adelaide commences on Thursday November 26
Jamie Whincup concedes Triple Eight "made our bed pretty early" at Sandown, which saw Will Brown eliminated and Broc Feeney narrowly qualify for the Grand Final.
Feeney was sixth for the round and Brown 14th, with the former scraping through to Adelaide by 17 points.
Brown, who spun himself out on Saturday before being penalised, dropped from fifth to seventh in the Finals standings, but moves back to outright fifth for the final round.
Feeney is armed with a shot at redemption after his 2025 Adelaide heartbreak, but Triple Eight has it all to do in the teams' championship, with Penrite Racing opening up a 148-point lead.
For the second round running on a Saturday night, Triple Eight was left searching for answers after both cars dropped off, Brown labelling the performance as "terrible," with engineer David Cauchi lamenting a lack of grip.
That was the theme of the weekend for Whincup, who admitted his Red Bull Ampol Mustangs "didn't quite have enough pace" to put its destiny in its own hands.
"Ultimately, very happy to have one car in the final," said Whincup, who vowed to give both cars equal opportunity of qualifying for Adelaide in Sunday's race.
"We would have loved to have had two, but the story of our weekend was we just didn't quite have enough pace. We made our bed pretty early."
After Sunday's race, Brown admitted elimination was where he deserved to be, having qualified 19th for Sunday's do-or-die race.
Whincup is determined to deliver two fast cars for Adelaide, adding: "We'll go away, make sure we're fast at the last round, have a full go with Car 88, and 888 can have a free swing and see if we can win the event."
Feeney starts the weekend ranked third behind Matt Payne and Brodie Kostecki, with Chaz Mostert fourth.
