Moffat, Herne and GRM deep in 'Bathurst mode'

Garry Rogers Motorsport’s road to Bathurst is gaining speed, as the team readies for two big days of testing.

James Moffat and rookie Nathan Herne will drive an ex-Triple Eight Race Engineering Chevrolet Camaro at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

After weeks of build-up, Moffat and Herne spent time last week preparing driver changes and getting acquainted with the Camaro, before this week’s test days.

A special-liveried GRM Camaro will be on track at Winton Motor Raceway on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“It's good to finally be in the shop with Nath. This is the first time since we announced it that we've both been in the shop and the car's here,” Moffat said in a team video.

“It's just sort of good to be in Supercars mode, if you like. Bathurst mode. So that's good.

"Looking forward to the test day. Be good to drive and see what the differences are with the Camaro compared to the Mustang Gen3. Looking forward to it. Should be a good couple of days.”

The last comment from Moffat carries weight, given he raced Gen3 Mustangs for Tickford between 2023 and 2025. Herne, meanwhile, has never raced a Supercar.

GRM is keeping the preparation in the family, with the Camaro to carry a tribute livery to the late Garry Rogers at the Winton test.

The car will carry the colours of Rogers’ second-ever race car, an Appendix J EH Holden.

Moffat, though, is preparing as he always has, and is eager to form a closer bond with Herne as they ready to tackle the Mountain.

“I enjoy the personal side of the preparation, like driving gear and everything, because that's one thing you can control,” Moffat said.

"A lot of things in the sport are outside of your control, so kind of always put effort into controlling what I can as much as possible.

"And especially when you're preparing for a big race, all the little details add up."

Track action at Mount Panorama commences on Thursday October 8.
