James Moffat and Nathan Herne bank their first Camaro test
Moffat/Herne Camaro returns to Winton on Wednesday
Barry Rogers admitted he was emotional to see a Garry Rogers Motorsport Supercar back out on track, on a successful day of testing at Winton.
James Moffat and Nathan Herne completed their first day with the ex-Triple Eight Chevrolet Camaro at Winton Motor Raceway on Tuesday.
Moffat, Herne and GRM were joined at Winton by former Supercars champions Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall, who are supporting the programme.
The Moffat/Herne Camaro will be one of two wildcards at next month's Repco Bathurst 1000, alongside Team 18’s car for Craig Lowndes and Bayley Hall.
GRM is on track for another day on Wednesday, as the team counts down the days to its first Bathurst — and Supercars — start since 2020.
For GRM Director Barry Rogers, it was an especially proud moment to officially bring to life another dream of his late father Garry, who passed away last October.
“The most special part this morning was rolling the car out of the truck and really thinking about Dad,” Barry said.
“Quite emotional actually to see James Moffat first go to pit lane this morning and between James and Nathan, they've had a really, really, really solid day.
"Obviously learning the car first time, GRM running a Gen3 Supercar, but all credit to Triple Eight."
The day went smoothly, with second-generation racer Moffat pleased after his maiden laps in a Gen3 Camaro.
“We've got through our program really well today. Got through all the driver ergo stuff early this morning and just been settling into it,” Moffat said.
"Car's run faultlessly, so that's a testament to not only Triple Eight, how we received the car, but also all the work the crew have done back at the workshop in preparation for the day. It hasn't missed a beat.
“Hopefully that's a good sign of things to come for us as we gear up for Bathurst.”
Track action at Mount Panorama commences on Thursday October 8.
