Jacl Le Brocq hit "ruined our day," says David Reynolds
Le Brocq hit Reynolds in closing laps as Camaros disputed ninth
Le Brocq 24th after penalty, Reynolds only 23rd
David Reynolds has lamented his late clash with Chevrolet rival Jack Le Brocq, which the Team 18 veteran claims “ruined our day.”
A collision at Turn 6 between the two Camaro drivers led to Reynolds being sent into a spin, and Le Brocq being penalised.
Reynolds briefly stopped and triggered a Safety Car, with Le Brocq reclassified 24th and last with the penalty.
The Matt Stone Racing driver apologised to Reynolds on the broadcast, although the damage had been done for both drivers on the scoreboard.
Where top 10s were in the offing for both drivers, they instead lost more ground in the Finals race. Le Brocq, who held down a top 10 spot through New Zealand, is nearly 100 points off the pace.
It’s even tougher for Reynolds, who after scoring a podium in the Tasmania finale, has finishes of 17th, 16th and 23rd.
"It wasn't the result our day deserved. The start of the day was okay, we qualified eighth and were racing reasonably well,” Reynolds said.
"The car balance wasn't too bad at the start and we were sitting around ninth for most of the race. We probably pitted a bit too early and that hurt us a little bit, but it wasn't the whole story.
"I got turned around by another car with a few laps to go, which ruined our day. Up until then we were on track for a top 10 finish.
"We should have finished around ninth, but instead we ended up 23rd, so that's obviously disappointing.”
Reynolds’ teammate Anton De Pasquale dropped from a front row start to sixth by the flag.
Saturday Supercars action kicks off with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 10:45am local time/11:15am AEST.
