Track construction now underway for 2026 Supercars event

The Gold Coast is shifting into race mode, with track construction now underway for the 2026 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, the first step in Surfers Paradise’s transformation into a 2.96-kilometre street circuit.
With just 37 days until the Gold Coast's biggest party rolls into town, crews are installing more than eight kilometres of concrete barriers and fencing.
2023 Supercars champion and 2024 Gold Coast 500 winner Brodie Kostecki, and Gold Coast-based driver James Golding joined Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate this morning to swap Supercars helmets for hardhats to mark the start of the build.
Supercars Gold Coast 500 Event Manager Matthew Gegg said this year’s event was shaping up to be one of the biggest Gold Coast 500s yet.
“Once the barriers start going in, you know the countdown is officially on. In just a few weeks, these streets will go from everyday Gold Coast to one of the most thrilling street circuits in the country," said Gegg.
“We’ve got a huge weekend planned, both on and off the track. The racing will be as fierce as ever, and we’re bringing even more entertainment, experiences and reasons for fans to make a weekend of it. Surfers Paradise is going to be buzzing from the moment the gates open, to the final race.
“That’s what makes track build such an exciting milestone. You can actually watch the event come to life around you. Every barrier that goes in gets us one step closer to race weekend and the party that comes with it.
“We’re proud of the role the event plays in bringing people into the city, supporting local businesses and creating that unmistakable Gold Coast energy.”
The Gold Coast 500 contributed more than $64 million to the local economy last year, with 200,000 fans projected to visit the Gold Coast across race weekend this year.
Member for Surfers Paradise John-Paul Langbroek said the track build marked an exciting milestone in the countdown to one of Queensland’s biggest sporting events.
“The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 brings world-class racing, passionate fans and an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Australia,” said Mr Langbroek.
“Events like this drive visitation, support local businesses and showcase Queensland to audiences across the country and around the world.
“The Crisafulli Government is proud to support the Gold Coast 500 as part of our Destination 2045 plan to cement Queensland’s reputation as Australia’s events capital.”
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the city was gearing up for another major weekend on the events calendar.
“The Gold Coast 500 is a signature event for our city, and seeing the track come to life on our streets is always a highly anticipated step along the way,” said Mayor Tate.
“We're expecting around 200,000 visitors, bringing significant benefits to local businesses, hospitality and tourism. There will be temporary traffic changes around Main Beach and Paradise Waters as the circuit takes shape, so I encourage locals and visitors to plan ahead.”
As track build gets underway, Supercars encourages race fans to visit businesses along Main Beach’s Tedder Avenue, recognising the neighbourhood’s role in bringing the Gold Coast 500 experience to life.
Fans will be able to win GC500 tickets to and engage with the event in the lead up to and during race week on Tedder Ave, which sits on the doorstep of the northern end of the Surfers Paradise street circuit.
"Tedder Avenue is an iconic neighbour of the GC500 track, and those businesses have embraced the event from the very beginning," said Mr Gegg.
“The Tedder Ticket Takeover is a chance for us to give something back and let those businesses share the race weekend with the customers who support them throughout the year.”
As construction continues, crews will install barriers and debris fencing along the Gold Coast Highway and Surfers Paradise Boulevard before pit lane, grandstands and corporate facilities take shape in the weeks ahead.

Track build also coincides with Supercars free launch event at The Star Gold Coast on Thursday, September 17 from 5:00 p.m.
The 2026 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 will take place from 23-25 October in Surfers Paradise, proudly supported by Tourism and Events Queensland and Experience Gold Coast.

Works around Main Beach and Paradise Waters will take place from mid-September up to race week, week commencing October 19
An experienced team will deliver the build, made up of long-term event partners and contractors who have delivered the event for many years
A staged build allows construction to be delivered safely and efficiently while maintaining access for residents, businesses and visitors wherever possible
The event team works closely with residents, businesses, building managers, government agencies and other stakeholders throughout the construction period
