The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 is one of Australia’s most iconic street racing events, held annually on the Surfers Paradise street circuit. The event has been a key part of the Supercars Championship since 2010, and builds on a proud history of international motorsport on the Gold Coast dating back to the Indy events in the early 1990s.
Now recognised as Queensland’s largest annual sporting event, the GC500 attracts significant national and international attention each year and has become a defining feature of the Gold Coast’s major events calendar.
Supporting the local economy:
Events of this scale play an important role in supporting the local economy and tourism industry. The Gold Coast welcomes over 12 million visitors annually, with events like the GC500 providing a key reason for people to visit, stay longer, and return in the future.
The GC500 alone attracts crowds of around 200,000 attendees and injects tens of millions of dollars into the local economy each year. This increased visitation supports:
Local accommodation providers, restaurants and cafes
Retail and hospitality businesses
Tourism operators and attractions
Event suppliers, contractors and local jobs
Major events are widely recognised as economic drivers, delivering increased spending, business activity and employment opportunities across the region.
A Global Showcase for the Gold Coast:
The GC500 showcases the Gold Coast on a national and international stage, with global broadcast coverage and strong media exposure.
Events help position destinations like the Gold Coast as world-class tourism locations, highlighting the city’s beaches, lifestyle and entertainment offering to new audiences.
This exposure supports long-term tourism growth by encouraging future visitation and strengthening the city’s reputation as a major events destination.
A Natural Fit for the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast’s unique combination of infrastructure, accommodation capacity, beachside location and established events experience makes it an ideal host for a major street circuit event.
The GC500 has evolved into more than just a race weekend — it is a major sporting, entertainment and tourism event that reflects the energy and lifestyle of the city.
