Anton De Pasquale not content after again leading Camaro charge
De Pasquale first Chevrolet home in ninth, behind six Fords and two Toyotas
Team 18 driver nearly 100 points off lead, two races after leading
For the third time in four races this season, Anton De Pasquale was the lead Chevrolet driver on what was a bruising day for Camaros in Melbourne.
The Team 18 star, who led the points after winning Race 2 in Sydney, raced from seventh to ninth on Thursday on a day dominated by Brodie Kostecki and Ford.
De Pasquale lost ground off the start and took the Safety Car restart in ninth, where he finished. Erebus Motorsport driver Cooper Murray made it two Camaros in the top 10.
As he did in the first two Sydney races, De Pasquale — anointed the ’No. 1 Chev driver’ by team owner Charlie Schwerkolt — was General Motors’ spearhead.
If not for a clash with Will Brown in the Sydney finale, De Pasquale would have been first Camaro home in all four races to date.
However, De Pasquale simply wants more from his race car.
"Okay day for us in the top 10. Just missed a couple tricks in qualifying and then the race car wasn't as good as what we'd hoped,” De Pasquale said.
“So we'll have a think about it, try a couple things. Have another race tomorrow starting from the same position.”
Teammate David Reynolds raced from 16th to 15th, and is just one point ahead of reigning champion Chaz Mostert in the standings, despite Mostert being disqualified from Race 2 in Sydney.
“It's a funny track this because you can feel like you're miles off but you're not that far,” Reynolds said.
“But even in qualifying the car felt good, I was happy with it, but it just needed more grip I think, and then the lap time probably would've turned up.
“In the race got a reasonable start. I kind of knew I was a bit wounded from the start because I had a lot of understeer and I was kinda waiting for that to get better, but it never did.”
Race 5 will commence at 5:30pm local time.
