David Reynolds became 13th driver to 500 starts, but first to record DNF

Team 18 driver now 14th, 139 points from provisional Finals position
In the weeks leading to New Zealand, David Reynolds set out to make his 500th Supercars race one to remember.
Come Friday in Christchurch, he suffered the ignominy of becoming the first driver to retire from his 500th start.
After celebrations with his team in the morning, Friday turned sour for Reynolds, who after qualifying 18th, was involved in a crash just seconds into Race 10.
Reynolds, Cameron Hill and Macauley Jones all picked up damage in a bizarre incident that led to an even more bizarre sequence that saw yellow flags and Safety Car boards displayed and rescinded.
The #500 Snowy River Caravans Chevrolet limped back to pit lane, and such was the damage, that Reynolds was a spectator as Kai Allen claimed his maiden Supercars victory.
On a day he joined a very exclusive group, Reynolds was left wanting when it mattered, suffering his first DNF since Darwin last June, ending a run of 25 straight finishes.
“A bit of a disappointing day. Didn’t get the most out of practice, we had a few dramas, and qualifying just didn’t maximise it at all," Reynolds said.
“We started 18th and barely got going. Got an average start and then got sandwiched by two BJR cars and that was my race over. The car was too broken to keep going. Very disappointing day for my 500th.”
Supercars return to Ruapuna on Saturday morning for back-to-back Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions, beginning at 10:05am NZST/8:05am AEST.
