Will Davison, DJR completed new car shakedown on Wednesday
Davison debuts new Erebus-built chassis after starting year in PACE tub
Brodie Kostecki debuted new Erebus-built chassis this season
A successful shakedown has paved the way for Dick Johnson Racing to have two Fords with Erebus-built chassis on track, with Will Davison keen to correlate the two Mustangs.
After four rounds in a PACE Innovations-built chassis, Davison will move into an Mustang build around an Erebus Motorsport-tub from the next round in Perth.
Davison was joined by DJR staff and teammate Brodie Kostecki for Wednesday’s new car shakedown at Queensland Raceway, with Supercars technical staff also on site.
Kostecki made his DJR debut in an Erebus-built chassis in Sydney, and claimed two poles and a podium in New Zealand.
Davison also scored silverware at Taupō, before the team slumped to 23rd and 24th at the last round in Tasmania amid a double disqualification from the opener.
DJR had plans to start the year with two Erebus-built chassis, before the team quickly put together a PACE-built car for Davison.
Having sampled his new Ford, Davison was not only excited to drive a new car, but determined to compare it to Kostecki’s machine.
“It's always a privilege, it never gets lost on me after all these years,” the 22-time race winner said.
“The joy to get behind the wheel of a spanking new Supercar that's had so many man hours, blood, sweat, and tears and attention to detail into every single element of the build.
“It's obviously been a big year for the team. To be honest, it’s the first time in my career I've actually shaken down two cars in the space of five rounds.
"We debuted a new car at the start of the season, but the build spec of this is slightly different, on par with the chassis Brodie debuted at the start of the year, and on par with a lot of the changes that have been undertaken at the team this year.
“So, now knowing they're both built identically if you like, it's really important that we can correlate perfectly between the two cars.”
Davison is 14th in the championship heading to Perth, and is 98 points outside the top 10.
The two-time Bathurst champion is a four-time race winner at the Wanneroo circuit, and won there with DJR in 2022.
Having reached comfort in his new Mustang, Davison is now eyeing redemption for the team after its nadir at Symmons Plains.
"Things are running smoothly. We’re not far out from the next event over in Western Australia, in Perth,” he said.
"So we're just taking the opportunity in these 19 laps, 60 kilometres just to fine tune a few little ergonomical things. Although it should be identical, there's often just niggling little things here and there which take a little bit of adjusting, which we've done.
"Everything feels perfect now, and just taking the chance to run through a few little systems. I'm excited, very thankful to the team. Car looks amazing, so we've gotta make sure we use it in Perth and bounce back after what was a difficult last round in Tasmania."
DJR will resume its 2025 campaign in Perth on June 6-8. Tickets on sale now.
