Triple Eight has to "work out" deficit to Cam Waters, says Will Brown

Waters 60 points ahead after winning all three Sydney races from pole
Will Brown has called on Triple Eight Race Engineering to work out the deficit to Cam Waters, who opened up an early lead in 2025 after a stunning Sydney sweep.
Reigning champion Brown left Round 1 second overall, but 60 points behind runaway leader Waters, who won all three races from pole position.
Waters also claimed fastest lap bonus points in all three races, helping himself to the maximum 315 points, a feat previously achieved just once in the last four seasons.
Brown finished fifth, second and third in the three races, which he cited a "really good recovery." However, the Supercars champion knows Triple Eight has work to do to mow down Waters.
“In what was not a good weekend for us to get a second, third and a fifth, I think is a really good recovery and I'm pretty happy with our results," Brown said.
"Just got to go back to the drawing board and work out why we weren't as good in qualifying, but also as a team.
“Broc was fast, but we're still a fair way off Cam, so we’ve got to work that out. I think I would have ended up about second in the championship now. So, after the first weekend, that's not too bad.
"Cam's obviously come out with a bang winning all three races and doing that at the first round is a massive achievement. We need to come back stronger at the Grand Prix and do a better job."
Brown's comments echo those of Triple Eight Team Manager Mark Dutton, who said the team "needs to" replicate its three wins from four starts efforts from last year's Grand Prix.
As he did often in 2024, Brown bounced back after qualifying to piece together a strong race result, rounding up teammate Broc Feeney on lap 1 before holding down second for the entirety of the race.
“Today wasn’t really too bad. I was able to get into second from fourth and then manage the car throughout," Brown said after Sunday's race.
"I felt like we had a really good first stint, but probably dropped off a little in the second stint. Broc seemed really fast and was coming back at us, but the last stint was just about managing it in the wet, not making a mistake and getting the car back.”
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Melbourne SuperSprint, which will feature at the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix 2025 on March 13-16.
