Walkinshaw Andretti United announces ownership, name change
United Autosports steps away from its ownership stake in the team
WAU enters new Toyota era as Walkinshaw TWG Racing in 2026
Walkinshaw Andretti United will enter its new Toyota era as Walkinshaw TWG Racing, as United Autosports steps away from its ownership stake in the team.
WAU recently celebrated its first Supercars drivers' championship since 2002, with Chaz Mostert crowned champion after the inaugural Repco Supercars Finals Series.
The WAU name was born after Andretti Autosport and United Autosports bought into the team in 2017. In the years since, WAU has switched from Holden to Ford, brought Toyota to Supercars, and won the 2021 Bathurst 1000 and 2025 championship.
United Autosports, founded by Zak Brown and Richard Dean, steps away in order to focus on its European and endurance racing programs, including its entry into the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027 with McLaren United.
Walkinshaw TWG Racing’s ownership structure will, for the immediate future, be split between the two existing parties, Walkinshaw Group and TWG Motorsports.
Ryan Walkinshaw remains at the helm of Walkinshaw Group, which has just opened its new headquarters, while TWG Motorsports purchased the United Autosport shares.

TWG Motorsports, led by CEO Dan Towriss, took over from Andretti Global as it readies a 2026 Formula 1 entry with Cadillac. TWG has absorbed Andretti Global's Cadillac F1 project, as well as its IndyCar, Supercars teams, NASCAR (Spire Motorsports) and sportscar (Wayne Taylor Racing) teams.
TWG Motorsports is under the TWG Global umbrella, and has interests in the likes of Chelsea Football Club and Los Angeles Dodgers.
The changeover of ownership and identity, including new logo, will take place on February 3, just before the start of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship.
Walkinshaw TWG Racing will debut its new GR Supras at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 20-22.
Brown said it was an "incredibly difficult" decision, with Walkinshaw Group CEO and Managing Director Ryan Walkinshaw paying tribute to United Autosports.
“United Autosports, and more specifically, Zak Brown and Richard Dean, have been nothing but fantastic to work with since 2018. While we are all sad to see them go, we completely respect their decision," Walkinshaw said.

“We’ve shared in some fantastic moments together, none bigger than the Championship in Adelaide a few weeks ago, or winning Bathurst in 2021, and personally, I’ve really enjoyed working alongside them.
"It started as an idea to bring Andretti Autosport into the fold, and it wasn’t long before Zak was making sure he didn’t miss out!
“Importantly though, while we’ve got a different name and logo, it’s business as usual for the team. We’ve got a huge off-season ahead of us, and an even bigger 2026 in store, as the Toyota GR Supra rolls out for its first race in the Supercars Championship.”
Towriss added: “We’re thankful for everything United Autosports has contributed to this team since 2018 and for the success we shared along the way.
"Their role in building where we are today will always be an important part of our story, and we thank the entire organisation, as well as Zak and Richard.
“Now our focus turns fully to an exciting new chapter in 2026 with a new name, a new manufacturer in Toyota and returning as a homologation team, while carrying forward the same core group with the same desire to win – and defend our new championship. I can’t wait to see what’s next."
Mostert and Ryan Wood will debut their new GR Supras at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 20-22 next year.
