As 2025 winds down, Supercars.com is ranking the top 10 drivers of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship, starting with Brodie Kostecki, who comes in as our #5.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team made a big play to sign Brodie Kostecki, and recently made a bigger play to sign him up until the end of 2030. That alone tells you that driver and team want to go places.
Looking back, three wins, four podiums and four poles isn't his best return. But Kostecki did what he was signed up to do: restore pride and performance to Dick Johnson Racing.
Given the level of competition and how DJR had performed in the first two years of the Gen3 era, a Kostecki championship always seemed pretty unlikely in 2025. But with a year under his belt, and with the team firmly in his corner, he could be a handful for his rivals in 2026.
Brodie Kostecki's season stats
Championship position: 9th
Best finish: 1st (Townsville, The Bend, Adelaide)
Average finish: 8.66
Race head-to-head with teammate: 26-5
Podiums: 4
Best start: 1st (Taupō 2x, Townsville, Bathurst)
Average start: 8.18
Qualifying head-to-head with teammate: 30-4
Why we picked him
DJR were always set to have growing pains in 2025, as they bedded in new drivers, new chassis and new staff.
Still, Kostecki made his presence felt right away with a round-the-outside stunner on Broc Feeney in Sydney, and fought tooth and nail with Chaz Mostert for victory in New Zealand. That Taupō performance left Kostecki fuming, which made for great viewing, and also proved that he was up for the fight.
It took until Townsville for Kostecki to break through, before he dominated The Bend. He was fired up in Bathurst, and went down swinging. The Gold Coast crash was a low point, but driver and team continued to push the boundaries.
Winning in Adelaide was a good reward, but Kostecki would be the first to admit he would've loved more wins.
What we expect next season
James Courtney and Scott McLaughlin won championships with DJR in their second seasons. Kostecki can absolutely do the same.
When the car is there, he's the best out there. That's not a flippant statement to the rest of the field, it's a fact. You don't get three straight Bathurst poles by accident.
With rookie teammate Rylan Gray arriving, Kostecki will have a big workload in 2026. But should DJR clean up the teething issues that let them down in 2025, Kostecki could be a serious nuisance for his rivals.
If he makes The Finals, and is placed better than he was this year, he should make it to Adelaide. If he does, well...
