Shell V-Power Racing Team wants answers to costly Tasmania refuelling issue
Ford team left wanting on "frustrating" weekend in Tasmania
Brodie Kostecki dropped 150 points to Broc Feeney in one weekend
The Shell V-Power Racing Team will investigate the fuel flow issue that cost both its drivers in Sunday’s Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440 finale.
Championship contender Brodie Kostecki and rookie Rylan Gray were both delayed by an issue in pit lane in Race 16, which was won by points leader Broc Feeney.
Kostecki and Gray finished 12th and 23rd respectively, Gray even stopping four times and being lapped by winner Feeney.
For Kostecki, it was yet another blow to his Repco Sprint Cup charge, having fallen from the lead in Christchurch to be 173 points behind Feeney heading to Darwin.
Kostecki claimed his car was still nursing damage from Saturday’s incident with David Reynolds, who clouted the rear of the #17 Ford in Race 15.
The speed was there for the #17 Shell V-Power Mustang, with Kostecki claiming a podium in the opener before sailing to provisional pole on Sunday morning.
However, finding answers to the refuelling headache is a now key priority for the team, which is keen to move onto the next round in Darwin.
“It’s been a frustrating weekend. Despite good pace and a podium for Brodie Kostecki on Saturday he got caught up in another driver’s accident,” Team Principal Mark Fenning said.
“Rylan Gray continues to develop, qualifying just outside the top 10 on both days.
“On Sunday a fuel flow issue cost both cars dearly. We will understand the fuel flow issue and move on to Darwin.”
The Shell V-Power squad also dropped behind Tickford Racing to fifth in the teams’ championship after Sunday’s race.
Engineer George Commins quipped post-race: "We had a vapour lock or something in the fuel system, so got hardly any in at the first stop.
"We could still do it on two full churns, but we needed a little bit of fuel save in the second stint from Brodie, which he did easily, and then it all balanced out in the end.
"It's something we'll have to look into, the multitude of errors in the race."
The 2026 Repco Supercars Championship resumes in Darwin on June 19-21.
