Supercars has joined forces with New Zealand-based Street Smart to help deliver its nationally recognised driver safety program in Christchurch this week.
Street Smart, supported by the Tony Quinn Foundation, is designed to equip young Kiwis and their families with the real-world skills, awareness and decision-making tools needed to stay safe on New Zealand roads.
Road crashes are one of the leading causes of death and serious injury for young people in New Zealand, with Street Smart designed to help prepare young drivers for the unexpected.
Supercars partnered with Street Smart to bring the program back to Christchurch this week for the first time since 2021. This week’s education days were held at Ruapuna Raceway – the same venue that will host the ITM Christchurch Super 440 from April 17-19, 2026, when Supercars races on NZ’s South Island for the first time.
Fans can win a 2026 ITM Taupō Super 440 experience among a number of special rewards in Street Smart's lottery. Purchase tickets here to take part in the lottery.
“Street Smart plays a vital role in building safer driving habits for life,” Street Smart director Hayden Dickason said.
“The support of partners like Supercars allows us to scale our impact and reach more families, ultimately reducing risk for young drivers across New Zealand.”
For Supercars, supporting Street Smart aligns with its commitment to community engagement and road safety education, particularly as the championship prepares to make its first visit to Christchurch in 2026.
“As we look forward to bringing Supercars to Christchurch next April, we’re proud to partner with Street Smart to help young drivers develop the skills and awareness they need to get home safely every time they drive,” a Supercars spokesperson said.
With the combined efforts of Street Smart, the Tony Quinn Foundation, and partners like Supercars, the program continues to deliver transformative experiences that build capability, confidence, and safer behaviours for life.
The 2026 Supercars season kicks off February 20-22, with the Championship set to cross the Tasman for the ITM Double Header April 10-12 at Taupō International Motorsport Park and April 17-19 at Ruapuna Raceway.
