Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440 finale distance increased
Race 16 increased from 78 to 84 laps, three compulsory stops
Track action commences on Friday May 22
Supercars has made two key changes to the final race of the Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440, which has been increased in distance.
Race 16 of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship will be held over 84 laps, up from the original 78 laps.
The change comes after discussions with Supercars and teams around fuel consumption.
Discussions surrounded the ability to complete the original Sunday race distance with just two fuel churns, with the race initially requiring two compulsory pit stops.
Supercars had previously reduced the race distance to 78 laps to ensure teams could complete the race with just two churns.
Supercars introduced a new fuel blend in 2026, specially formulated to meet the extreme demands of Supercars racing for the 2026 season. The new fuel has slightly increased fuel consumption.
Through close collaboration between bp’s local and global fuel technology teams and Supercars technical experts, the new fuel is 100% made from renewable materials composed of 85% ethanol and 15% bio-gasoline from waste material.
The shortest circuit on the calendar, Tasmania has one of the highest average speeds, and is one of the toughest on fuel consumption.
After additional feedback and collaboration with teams, Race 16 has been increased by six laps, with the compulsory pit stop count increased from two to three.
The changes will open up more strategy options with fuel and tyres for teams, which encourages Race 16 to be one of the most thrilling and unexpected contests to date this season.
The changes were sent to teams on Friday, and will be ratified in Further Regulations for the event in coming days.
An increase in Tasmania gives teams and drivers extra margin, ensuring some drivers and teams won’t be forced to opt to fuel-saving strategies before the race even begins.
It comes after Supercars moved to encourage teams to be more aggressive on strategy in Taupō, by reducing the lap count of the 200km race by one lap.
Track action commences in Tasmania on Friday May 22.
