Ryan Wood receives 15-second penalty over Broc Feeney clash
Wood and Feeney collided on the opening lap of the Adelaide finale
Collision turned championship on its head, with Feeney the points leader
Motorsport Australia stewards have shed light on the decision made to penalise Ryan Wood over his dramatic first lap collision with Broc Feeney in the Adelaide finale.
Championship leader Feeney and Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Wood, teammate to Feeney's title rival Chaz Mostert, collided into Turn 6 on the opening lap of Sunday's finale.
Feeney, who bogged down from pole and was picked off by Matt Payne, defended from a racy Wood, and the two collided at Turn 6.
The clash sent Feeney to the rear of the field, while Wood was hit with a 15-second penalty."
Triple Eight Race Engineering Managing Director Jamie Whincup labelled the incident as "grubby", while WAU Director Ryan Walkinshaw claimed Feeney was to blame.
According to the stewards report, Wood was "predominantly to blame," stating Wood "attempted to force his Car through on the inside of Car 88" and, when Feeney turned in, Wood had "insufficient overlap on Car 88 to be entitled to space on the inside."
Feeney went on to finish 20th with a badly misfiring engine, Wood finished 24th after pulling into the lane with right front damage late in the race, and Mostert won the championship with a second place finish.
The report reads:
Competitor WAU Racing Pty Ltd
Car and Driver: Car 2 - Ryan Wood
Session: Race 34
Date: Sunday, 30 November 2025
Time: 15:20
Fact: A collision occurred between Car 2 and Car 88 at Turn 6 on Lap 1
Rule Sch.B2 Article 2.1.1: Careless Driving, departing from the Standard of a competent Driver
Decision: 15 second time penalty
Reason: The Stewards reviewed broadcast vision in conjunction with the DSA.
The vision showed Car 2 attempting an inside overtake on Car 88 at Turn 6 on Lap 1. Car 2 attempted to force his Car through on the inside of Car 88. At the point when Car 88 turned in for Turn 6, Car 2 had insufficient overlap on Car 88 to be entitled to space on the inside. A collision occurred and Car 88 spun and lost multiple positions.
The Stewards determine that the Driver of Car 2 was predominantly to blame for the collision and impose a penalty consistent with previous breaches of a similar nature.
The Competitor is reminded that Decisions and Penalties that may be subject to Appeal are set out in B7.7.2 and the Rights to and process for an Appeal are set out in B5.
Wood came in for his stop and served his penalty on lap 23.
