Perkins Engineering restoring famous Peter Brock Commodore
Brock famously slid chassis PE 013 around Bathurst in 1991 Shootout
Car was built by Perkins Engineering ahead of 1991 season
A Holden Commodore touring car made famous in a wild Shootout lap by Peter Brock is the latest restoration project by Perkins Engineering.
Jack Perkins has revealed Perkins Engineering will restore the Mobil Commodore, chassis PE 013.
The car was made famous by Brock’s entertaining 1991 Bathurst Shootout lap, which saw the nine-time winner slide across the top of the Mountain.
PE 013 was built by Perkins Engineering ahead of the 1991 season, with Brock taking his Mobil backing to Larry Perkins’ squad.
Over 30 years later, the car is returning to the hands of Perkins Engineering — now run by Jack — ahead of a restoration.
After 1991, PE 013 was taken by Brock to Advantage Racing for 1992, with the Commodore updated to VP specifications at the end of that year.
After being returned to Perkins in 1994, the car was rebuilt and then sold. PE 013 made its final Bathurst 1000 start in 1999.
In a Perkins Engineering YouTube video, 2015 Gold Coast 500 winner Jack explained that, while the car is in its 1991 livery, there is plenty of work to be done to restore PE 013 to its original state.
That includes returning a Holden engine to the car and rollcage work.
In recent years, Perkins Engineering restored the 1993 Bathurst winner, which was driven by Larry in a demonstration runs at the 2023 Bathurst 1000.
PE 013 will be the latest in a line of stunning Aussie touring car restorations, following the reborn Mark Skaife 'Godzilla' Nissan, the dual Dick Johnson Racing Ford EB Falcon restoration and the Neil Crompton/Wayne Gardner Commodore.
