Racer turned TV personality Mark Larkham recognised with special award
Popular broadcaster awarded Motorsport Australia's Personality of the Year Award
'Larko' has been popular part of Supercars broadcasts for over a decade
Mark Larkham was left “deeply and genuinely humbled” to be recognised by Motorsport Australia with its Personality of the Year Award.
The former racer turned broadcaster was recently honoured at the 2024 Motorsport Australia National Awards following the Supercars season opener in Sydney.
There, 2024 Supercars champion Will Brown officially received the Australian Touring Car Championship trophy.
Among accolades presented on the night was the Personality of the Year Award, which was awarded to popular pundit and presenter Larkham.
‘Larko' has been a popular part of Supercars broadcasts for over a decade, bringing fans closer to the action with detailed analysis, either from pit lane or the Hino Hub.
The fan favourite also claimed the Supercars Media Award in 2023.
Speaking on the night, Larkham said: “It’s not lost on me at all that I’m in this privileged position. It’s a little unique.
“I’m not a media person, I’m not a television person, I don’t like television, I don’t even like the media. Get that, right? I live on a farm. I consider myself a racing person.
“A few years back the fans had my back and now I feel a deep and sincere obligation to have their back.
“I turn up at every event and I see my role as to break down, explain, dig in, so they understand and enjoy motorsport a little bit more.
“I’m part of a team, a great bunch of people. I’m just a small cog in a big wheel… I don’t do this for awards, I don’t have a social media account.
"I’m deeply and genuinely humbled, this will take pride in the trophy cabinet.”
Former winners of the Personality of the Year Award include Supercars champions Scott McLaughlin, Craig Lowndes and Marcos Ambrose.
Larkham will be front and centre on the Supercars broadcast of the upcoming round in Melbourne on March 13-16.
