Jaxon Evans Camaro ruled out of weekend after major hit
Lap 1 clash sent Evans head-first into Armco barrier in Darwin
Officials deemed car too damaged to continue on Sunday
Jaxon Evans' Darwin weekend has come to a premature end, with Brad Jones Racing opting to park the damaged SCT Logistics Chevrolet following his Race 17 crash.
The New Zealander's day came to a shattering halt on lap 1 in Race 17 after a collision sent Evans careening into the Armco barrier.
The head-on impact ruled Evans out immediately, and sidelined him for Saturday's second race.
Before Saturday's second race, Evans told Supercars.com he was hopeful of a rebuild. However, the team confirmed the worst.
In their Saturday media release, BJR said "substantial damage to the SCT Motorsport Camaro in the earlier race has ruled out Car 12 for the rest of the weekend with the team electing to not continue repairs at the track."
BJR is also set to move Evans in a spare chassis, the one he crashed in Adelaide last November, for the next round in Townsville.
Evans' withdrawal leaves 24 cars on the grid for Sunday's third and final race, being the remaining 23 full-time entries and Tickford Racing’s wildcard Mustang for Rylan Gray.
It's a killer blow to Evans' promising season, with the Kiwi one of the impressive stories of 2025.
Evans is now 20th in the standings, 218 points from the top 10.
"I just want to say a massive thank you to the SCT Motorsport crew," Evans said in a team release.
"The work and effort they put into trying to repair the car is amazing. I was watching them in the race fixing the car and then going out to do a pit stop and come right back to fixing it.
"Their commitment is second to none. So a big thanks to everyone at the team."
Sunday's action will commence with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 9:05am/9:35am AEST, followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 11:35am/12:05pm AEST and Race 19 at 2:40pm local/3:10pm AEST.
