We're now three rounds in, and some key battles are emerging up and down pit lane.

A serious championship battle is evolving before our eyes, with the top six drivers covered by just 111 points heading to the upcoming round at Symmons Plains.

Will Brown leads Cam Waters by 34 points, but a two-win weekend has Matt Payne just 46 points back. Broc Feeney, Chaz Mostert and Brodie Kostecki round out the top six.

So, six drivers, five different teams. It's truly bubbling away to become a year to remember. But what of the rest of the field, and which drivers are putting their teammates to the canvas?

When it comes to one-lap pace, there are one-sided battles at several teams.

Notably, Broc Feeney leads Will Brown 9-1, with Payne (Penrite Racing), Cameron Hill (Matt Stone Racing) and Anton De Pasquale (Team 18) almost perfect.

Brodie Kostecki has also made his presence felt at Dick Johnson Racing, claiming two poles and holding an 8-2 lead over veteran teammate Will Davison. In fact, Kostecki, De Pasquale and Richie Stanaway (PremiAir Racing) are all ahead at their new teams.

There is an expected leader at Walkinshaw Andretti United, with Ryan Wood leading Chaz Mostert 6-4. Last year, Mostert belted rookie Wood 22-2.

There is only one 9-0 sweep, with Payne leading Kai Allen home in all races so far. However, that's not to say Allen hasn't been off the pace, with the 19-year-old the highest ranked rookie in the standings.

Despite being smashed in qualifying by Feeney, Brown leads the race head-to-head 5-4. Mostert has also turned the tables on Wood, winning in Taupō and claimed three additional podiums.

Kostecki leads Davison 6-3, and is five positions ahead in the championship. Davison does, though, have the best race finish of the two.

Cam Waters (Tickford), Kostecki (DJR), Payne (Penrite Racing), Hill (MSR), Andre Heimgartner (Brad Jones Racing), De Pasquale (Team 18), Jack Le Brocq (Erebus Motorsport) and James Courtney (Blanchard Racing Team) head both qualifying and race head-to-heads.

PremiAir driver James Golding has turned a 4-6 qualifying deficit into a 6-2 race lead, with Stanaway struggling to convert to race results this season.
