Feeney crashed out of Repco Bathurst 1000 contention
Feeney battled on cold tyres, crashed at Forrest's Elbow
Jamie Whincup backs Broc Feeney to bounce back from his devastating Repco Bathurst 1000 crash, despite admitting the erstwhile points leader was "pushing too hard."
Feeney crashed out of effective third heading into the final 30 laps of the 2025 race, adding yet another heartbreaking footnote to his young yet rollercoaster Bathurst career.
The #88 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet slid off at Forrest's Elbow, with Feeney stuck in the barriers. The Safety Car was deployed, with Feeney dropping two laps.
Triple Eight's day went from bad to worse when Will Brown first made an unforced error and ran long at Hell Corner, gifting a position to Aaron Cameron prior to the Feeney Safety Car. was hit with a five-second time penalty over a clash with Kai Allen at The Chase.
Brown was also placed under investigation for an alleged pit stop breach, which will be looked at post-race, before his Bathurst bid was ended by the heavy contact with the wall at Griffins Bend.
The #1 Camaro lost several laps whilst it's lost bonnet and wing were replaced, with the car sporting plenty of race tape when it re-emerged several laps down.
Speaking to the broadcast, Whincup said Feeney was driving too hard on cold wet tyres as he pushed to keep pace with leaders Ryan Wood and James Golding.
"Can't run all day on the same wet tyres. So we decided to do our paint now, to be better in the end," Whincup said on the broadcast.
"So we had all guys around him on hot tyres, so, unfortunately he was pushing too hard on the colder tyres.
"It's so easy to do and it's treacherous out there, weather's out of control.
"He's a champion. He'll fight back. But, not our day today."
Whincup's last Bathurst victory came in 2012, with the duo narrowly missing out in 2024 together.
Feeney and Brown both locked themselves into The Finals in Ipswich.
