GM earmarks Triple Eight/Team 18 handover date
Team 18 appointed as Ford-bound Triple Eight’s successor
Handover "likely to be from July onwards," says GM
General Motors has indicated there will be a "progressive" handover between Team 18 and Triple Eight as its Supercars homologation team, which will occur midway through the 2025 season.
Announced on the eve of the New Zealand, Team 18 has been appointed as Triple Eight’s successor following January’s news that the latter will be moving to Ford in 2026.
The Charlie Schwerkolt-owned squad has campaigned GM machinery since 2015, and has run two cars since 2020.
Triple Eight will continue to race Chevrolet Camaros for the rest of 2025, but homologation duties are set to be transferred to Team 18.
“There’ll be a progressive handover from Triple Eight, but we’re still working our way through the timing of that,” Chevrolet Racing boss Chris Payne recently told media.
“It’s likely to be from July onwards.”
Triple Eight technical guru Jeromy Moore has signed on with GM, and will play a key part in the homologation team structure from 2026.
GM will take responsibility for the performance of its engine and body in Supercars, with Camaro teams also set for a stronger alliance with GM locally and overseas.
“Whether it’s parts or testing or things like that, you need to have a conduit to really work through,” said Eric Warren, Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition.
“That’s really what we’re looking towards. But our goal is to support all of our teams, and really all of our teams support the homologation activities through Team 18.
“But depending upon what it is, if it’s a new part design, we certainly can from designers to manufacturing to all those things, kind of play a support role.”
The handover will also leave Triple Eight clear to begin work on 2026, with the team recently wheeling first Ford Gen3 Supercar chassis into its workshop.
Will Brown and Broc Feeney are set to remain in their current Camaro chassis before shifting into Ford machinery next season.
