Chaz Mostert, Broc Feeney through to Sandown after Gold Coast opener
Thomas Randle, Brodie Kostecki, Ryan Wood enter Sunday below cut-line
Mostert jumps to third in standings, Will Brown fourth, Cam Waters fifth
Thomas Randle, Brodie Kostecki and Ryan Wood are all staring down the barrel of elimination, as Broc Feeney and Chaz Mostert took a massive step towards winning the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship.
By virtue of victory at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, Mostert has gained automatic entry to the Semi Final at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, where another win will book their place as one of the final four at the bp Adelaide Grand Final.
Championship leader Feeney also clinched his spot at Sandown, ending Saturday 197 points clear of the cut-line with 150 on offer on Sunday.
There was whole heap of drama impacting on Finals Drivers in the opening half of the race, with Will Brown getting spun on just the second lap by Kai Allen at Turn 11.
Wood had another heartbreaking day, this time when a fuel leak dropped him out of the lead early in the running. What looked like a potential 'win and you're in' scenario has turned into a 71-point deficit to overcome tomorrow.
It was originally an 86-point deficit, however 15 points were cut out of the gap as Anton De Pasquale received a five-second penalty post-race.
De Pasquale's car developed a power steering drama late in the race, with the Victorian shortcutting the chicanes several times in the final laps. Stewards deemed that he was still in breach due to not attempting to take the chicanes.
De Pasquale slipped from sixth to eighth in the final result, and went from 31 points clear of the cut-line to just 16.
Wood wasn't the only Ford runner to strike calamity on Saturday, with Kostecki crashing out for the day in Boost Mobile Qualifying this morning.
Repco Bathurst 1000 winner Matt Payne copped a 15-second penalty after he was released into the path of Mostert in a pit lane scramble in the first Safety Car period of the day, which dropped him down the order.
Payne also copped damage late in the race after contact with Will Davison in a fierce battle in the latter stages of the race, ultimately finishing 10th.
Track action commences on Sunday with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 10:00am local time/11:00am AEDT.
