Craig Lowndes to remain part of General Motors family
Lowndes will depart Triple Eight after 2025 season
Seven-time winner to announce 2026 plans in due course
Craig Lowndes will remain in the General Motors family following the announcement that he will not renew his contract with Triple Eight Race Engineering.
Announced Tuesday, Lowndes will part ways with Triple Eight at the conclusion of the 2025 racing season, with Triple Eight joining Ford in 2026.
Lowndes has been a prominent face of GM for years, with the seven-time Bathurst winner an ambassador for GM’s Aftersales brands since 2018.
The now Supercars Hall of Famer won his three drivers' championships, and four of his seven Bathurst 1000s, in Holden Commodores.
Announced by GM, Lowndes will continue to be the face of GM Aftersales including ACDelco, the ACDelco GM Trade program, and other customer-based initiatives.
It continues big moves made by GM, which has extended with engine supplier KRE Race Engines, while signing Triple Eight Technical Director Jeromy Moore.
In his own statement, Lowndes confirmed he will continue to compete at a professional level in his career, with plans for 2026 and beyond to be announced in due course.
It leaves the door open for Lowndes to make his 33rd consecutive Bathurst start with another Chevrolet team.
At current, GM is represented by Triple Eight, Erebus Motorsport, Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing, Brad Jones Racing and Team 18 in Supercars.
For now, Lowndes is focused on his 2025 commitments with Triple Eight, headlined by his wildcard starts at The Bend and Bathurst with Super2 champion Zach Bates.
The GM statement reads:
Craig Lowndes confirmed today his commitment to GM, following the announcement that he will not renew his contract with Triple Eight Race Engineering at the conclusion of the 2025 racing season.
The ever popular, seven-time Bathurst winner has been an ambassador for GM’s Aftersales brands since 2018.
In what is considered one of the longest running and most successful commercial athlete partnerships in Australia, Lowndes will continue to be the face of GM Aftersales including ACDelco – the most makes parts brand, the ACDelco GM Trade program, and other customer-based initiatives.
In Supercars Lowndes will be focussed on this year’s enduro campaign, in the Supercheap Auto Wildcard Camaro ZL1, alongside Zach Bates.
Chris Payne, General Manager Marketing Aftersales & Chevrolet Racing commented, “We are thrilled to continue our long-term relationship with Craig Lowndes. Craig is the perennial fan favourite – even to this day, some 30 years after his debut.
“He has become the face of ACDelco to our loyal GM Trade customers. We have exciting plans for the years ahead, that will result in us working even more closely with Craig on GM Aftersales initiatives and Chevrolet Racing.”
The 2025 season will resume in Melbourne this weekend.
