Cloud hanging over Ryan Wood Mustang amid latest car issue
Walkinshaw Andretti United attending to lift pump issue on #2 Ford
Wood set to start third for Saturday's 78-lapper in Adelaide
Walkinshaw Andretti United’s hopes of championship glory could be served another blow amid a fuel issue for Ryan Wood’s Ford Mustang.
WAU suffered a setback on Saturday morning, as hopeful Chaz Mostert qualified 12th for Saturday’s race. An electrical issue delayed Mostert, who was left fuming after missing out on a Shootout berth.
Mostert's teammate Wood claimed provisional pole, and qualified third behind championship leader Broc Feeney and rookie Aaron Cameron in the Shootout.
With Mostert 12th, Wood was set to play a key role in disrupting Mostert’s rivals in a bid to close the gap to Feeney further heading into Sunday.
However, WAU has since discovered a lift pump issue in the fuel tank, which per Supercars pit reporter Riana Crehan, has the team up against it to repair in time for the race start.
A lift pump is a device that helps deliver fuel from the fuel tank to the engine.
It’s the latest mechanical issue for the #2 Truck Assist Mobil 1 Mustang, with Wood recently undone by an engine issue in Bathurst, a fuel leak on the Gold Coast, and wheel nut problem at Sandown.
At the time of publication, WAU had one hour to amend the issue before the 78-lap Race 33 commences at 3:20pm local time/3:50pm AEDT. With 40 minutes to race start, the team ran up the car, with Wood set to hit trouble once his car runs low on fuel.
