After claiming his first race win for 2025 last time out in New Zealand, the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440 weekend has been a nightmare for Chaz Mostert.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United spearhead has been ruing a lack of speed in the #25 Mustang since rolling out of the truck on Friday at Symmons Plains.

That lack of speed only got worse in Boost Mobile Qualifying for Race 13 of the season this morning, with Mostert qualifying 23rd in the 24 car field, some seven and a half tenths off the pace of the fastest time of Broc Feeney.

After climbing out of his car following the first segment of qualifying, the two-time Bathurst winner admitted that the weekend has been a puzzling one for his side of the WAU garage.

Further muddying the waters for Mostert has been the impressive pace shown by teammate Ryan Wood on the Super Soft tyre, with the young Kiwi set to feature in the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout this afternoon.

"I wish I knew my story, but I haven't really got out of chapter one this weekend," said Mostert.

"Just really struggling with the car this weekend, just can't quite get the same pace out of it. Woody is obviosuly doing a fantastic job, we have similar traits, but this weekend I'm just suffering a bit to get my head around it.

"Back to the drawing board, we had a bit of a swing at it overnight. I think we just took away some strengths we had in the car, and we're still struggling with the same weaknesses.

"We had a swing at it today, it didn't pay off, but we've got the race, we'll have another opportunity and get another data point, and we'll see how we go."

Although both drivers have had similar complaints about car behaviour this weekend, Mostert has been unable to extract the same amount of performance that Wood has this weekend.

Starting to second to last today, the 33-year-old says that he will go back to an old trick from his karting days, where his father Eddie would buy him a cheeseburger for every overtake he made.

"We're struggling for the same things and he's getting away with it this weekend, where I feel like mine is a little bit more undriveable.

"I don't know if it's a bit of the young bull and the old bull kind of thing and struggling to get my head around it, but he's been doing a fantastic job, and he's been in real good form the last two rounds.

"For us on our side of the garage, the car is not really responding the way we need it to, and we're still struggling with the same weaknesses all weekend, and in trying to tune that we're making the car worse.

"We'll try and roll something back out similar to Practice 1, try and hang on today, and do what we can do. We can only go one position backwards.

"I'll get the old man on the phone or [wife] Ri on the phone, and try and have some incentive to pass some cars today."

Race 13 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship will begin at 2:45pm AEST.
