Cam Waters to be "hauling ass" across final Sprint Cup rounds
Waters has dropped 252 points to Broc Feeney at last four rounds
Tickford star winless in last 12 starts since Sydney sweep in February
Cam Waters has made no secret of his desire to chase down the leaders and win the Repco Sprint Cup, which is approaching its final stages in 2025.
After opening the 2025 season with three wins from pole in Sydney, the Tickford Racing driver has been out-scored by Broc Feeney by 252 points across the last four rounds.
Heading to the next round in Darwin, Feeney leads reigning champion teammate Will Brown by 72 points, with Penrite Racing driver Matt Payne 123 points behind.
If Waters wants to win the Sprint Cup, he has to overturn his 153-point deficit to Feeney across the next nine races in Darwin, Townsville and Ipswich.
It appears a tall order, with Feeney winning three of the last four races in Darwin. Waters, though, finished first and second in Townsville last year, while Supercars hasn't raced at Queensland Raceway since 2019.
Asked on Supercars' Cool Down Lap podcast over his chase for the Sprint Cup, Waters said: “I'll be hauling ass now, man.
“We’ll make sure we roll out a fast car in Darwin, with everything we've learned this weekend. Love it up there in Darwin. Townsville, we always go good and haven't been to QR for a long time.
“So, that'll be a lot of fun over the next three rounds.”
Feeney has been the clear benchmark in recent rounds, out-scoring closest rival Brown by 133 points across the Tasmania and Perth events. Payne was 138 points back, with Waters 180 points back. Across the last three rounds, Feeney has an average finish of 4.1, followed by Payne (4.7), Brown (5.3) and Waters 6.9).
While he kept pace with the leaders and started from the front row twice in Perth, Waters finished seventh, fourth and fourth, and was out-scored by Feeney by 52 points.
While he wasn't disappointed by the pace, given the late Safety Car effectively took away a near-guaranteed podium on Sunday, Waters felt he learned plenty after "throwing a lot" at his Monster Mustang.
“It wasn't too bad of a weekend for us,” Waters said.
“Obviously we wanna be quicker for sure, but still got some good points and threw a lot at the car and learned a lot, so that was good.
“Probably should have been second or third, but obviously the strategy stuff helped the others, so that's okay.”
Track action at the betr Darwin Triple Crown commences on June 20-22.
