Cam Waters survives chaos, impresses in Truck Series cameo
Supercars star claims first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series top five
Corey Heid led 99 of 100 laps and swept the stages at Lime Rock
Cam Waters has charged through the field to claim his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race top five at Lime Rock Park.
Starting 16th, the Supercars star finished fifth in the LiUNA 150, which was the first Truck Series race held at Lakeville, Connecticut.
The race was dominated by the dominant Corey Heim, who led 99 of 100 laps and swept the stages.
Heim beat Ty Majeski by 1.381s, with the former taking his fifth win of the season and his 16th victory in the Truck Series. Waters rounded out the top five behind Gio Ruggiero and ThorSport Racing teammate Ben Rhodes.
It was easily the best run yet for Waters in the Truck Series after a DNF on debut at Martinsville last year, followed by 19th in Kansas.

“I had a really fast truck to be able to do that, and then everyone ran off in front of me. I was pretty happy when they were all running off,” Waters told MRN Radio.
“It’s awesome. It’s something I want to do more of, come and do more racing. To be able to come over here and race a Lime Rock was awesome.
“I was stoked to be able to do it. I did a few races over here last year and had a little bit of bad luck, so I’m happy to put that bad luck aside and jag a result.”
Earlier, the 18-time Supercars race winner qualified 16th, with Heim beating practice fast man Jordan Taylor to pole position.
Waters survived a late restart with six laps to go, which shuffled the order among the leader at the first turn. The 30-year-old was on the fringe of the 10 before the likes of Taylor and Rajah Caruth went onto the grass.
The Tickford Racing driver will return to Australia ahead of the NTI Townsville 500 on July 11-13, with the Ford driver gunning for his fourth win at Reid Park.
There are three more races left in the regular Truck Series season, which resumes at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
The Supercars invasion continues next week, as champion Will Brown goes head-to-head with Shane van Gisbergen in the Chicago street race.
Brown makes his second Cup Series start, this time for Kaulig Racing. Jack Perkins, meanwhile, makes his Xfinity Series debut, also in Chicago.
Waters is fourth in the championship heading to Townsville. International viewers can watch the action on SuperView.
