Cam Waters close to finalising 2025 NASCAR deal
Tickford star talks new contract, shuts down GM question
Waters fourth in Supercars points heading to Darwin
Tickford Racing’s newly re-signed star Cam Waters has revealed he is close to finalising a deal to return to NASCAR in 2025.
The Ford driver, who sits fourth in the Supercars championship standings, is set to make another NASCAR cameo this year following a series of starts in 2024.
Waters made two Truck Series starts and a Cup start at Sonoma last year, with Ford squad RFK Racing facilitating his top flight debut.
Reigning Supercars champion Will Brown will race a Kaulig Racing Chevrolet in Chicago next month, with Waters confirming he won’t be on the grid for that race.
Speaking on Supercars’ Cool Down Lap podcast, Waters said there are still plans in the works, with the 30-year-old also keen to expand his sprint car calendar.
“Trying to do some NASCAR stuff. Pretty close to having a deal together,” Waters said.
“I won't be doing Chicago, but trying to do some other stuff instead... a 100% more sprint cars. We’re just working out the calendar for the summer at the moment.
“[Chief Racing, Waters' sprint car team] are keen to go around again and got some sponsors, so we'll sling some clay over summer.
“I’d love to come over here and do High Limits. Obviously you've got a few Americans come over and Kwinana’s a pretty cool joint, so hopefully I can get over here, but we'll see what we can do.”
Waters locked in his Supercars future with a Tickford extension through the end of 2027, with Thomas Randle also secured at the Ford team.
Waters said it was an “easy decision” to stay with Tickford, but stopped short over rumours he was approached by General Motors.
“I’ve been at Tickford obviously a long time, and love my team,” Waters said.
“I’ve got an amazing bunch of people on my car. I've got a great fanbase that support me, great sponsors, so it's kind of an easy decision. So, yeah, happy to where I’m.”
Asked if there was an approach from GM, Waters was blunt: “Can't comment on that one.”
Waters in fourth in the championship, 153 points behind Broc Feeney, heading to Darwin on June 20-22.
