Kostecki/Hazelwood's Bathurst unravels with issues, penalty
Car #38 suffered a slow loss of voltage in the original battery
Kostecki penalised over collision with Allen at Hell Corner
A series of issues have all but killed Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood’s hopes of going back-to-back at the Repco Bathurst 1000.
Kostecki was slapped with a drive-through penalty over a lap 99 collision with Kai Allen into Hell Corner. It got worse on lap 109, Kostecki flying off at The Chase.
The Allen clash came after Kostecki took over from Hazelwood, with their stop including a battery change.
The #38 Shell V-Power Ford had suffered a slow loss of voltage in the original battery, putting Kostecki and Hazelwood’s hopes in doubt.
Hazelwood had been running third at the time of the stop, with Kostecki taking over.
In a bid to make up time, Kostecki was in the thick of a battle when he sailed past Craig Lowndes and Jarrod Hughes into Hell Corner and clattered into Allen.
The penalty dumped Kostecki down the order, before he ran off again at The Chase.
At the time of publication on lap 110, the Ryan Wood/Jayden Ojeda Walkinshaw Andretti United Ford led the race.
On lap 115, DJR finally pulled the #38 into the garage, effectively bringing an end to their race as Wood put the Shell Ford a lap down.
Earlier, DJR was left with one car after a crash for Tony D'Alberto at Forrest's Elbow.
