Broc Feeney desperately wanted the clean sweep in Tasmania, but insists he wouldn’t have changed anything over his failed bid to defeat Matt Payne.

The Triple Eight Race Engineering star fell just 0.05s short in a stunning finish to Sunday’s race, which fell the way of Payne and Penrite Racing after a bold strategy call.

Feeney was the driver to beat all weekend; per Supercars data analyst Scott Sinclair, Feeney's fastest lap of 51.49s was 0.25 seconds quicker than the next fastest car. On average, he was 0.22s a lap quicker than everyone else – a huge margin on a short track.

Remarkably, Feeney has now lost two of the three closest finishes in ATCC/Supercars history, also being pipped by Cam Waters by 0.03s in Sydney. Had he been on the right end of both finishes, Feeney would lead by 54 points, rather than 33.

Speaking in the post-race press conference, Feeney suggested he could have remained on the inside into the hairpin, rather than opting to run around the outside. Regardless, the 22-year-old was proud he and his team managed to bury the demons of New Zealand, where Triple Eight missed the podium altogether.

“I would've loved to get the sweep, I suppose. But yeah, plenty to be proud of,” Feeney said on Supercars’ Cool Down Lap podcast.

“Like, I don't look back on that race and really have any regrets with what I did. I left it all out there and it was literally qualifying laps for pretty much the whole race.

“Super proud of the team, the bounce-back this weekend, to get the championship lead and put our foot down to show that we got some really good speed at the moment.”

Feeney was blown away by his pace advantage, claiming it was his best weekend in Supercars speed-wise.

The #88 Red Bull Ampol Camaro launched from the front row in both Saturday races, which he won in different circumstances.

After passing Thomas Randle in the early laps of Race 11, Feeney bolted away to a comfortable win. Just hours later, he emerged from pit lane in a gaggle of cars, and had to fight his way through.

“I think Darwin is probably my best weekend result-wise, but I think this weekend's probably speed-wise, my best,” Feeney said.

“I think all weekend, you know, even in qualifying like without a tow and to be on pole and, and all that.

“And the speed we had in that last race was, was really awesome. It was so much fun. Like I think we pulled eight seconds on the guys behind me in the second stint just punching clean air.

“Around Tassie, it's really hard to have a big advantage, and we had that this weekend. So that's just what makes me so happy. Obviously we'll try and keep that for the next few.”

Feeney now leads the championship over teammate Will Brown heading to the next round in Perth.
