Supercars Hall of Famer Neil Crompton has labelled his flying laps behind the wheel of Toyota’s new Supercar as “bloody cool.”
After driving the car during Wednesday’s Track to Town, Crompton stepped out of the commentary box and into a race suit and helmet on Friday.
Crompton had the honour of driving the car at pace in the first of a series of demonstrations throughout the Repco Bathurst 1000 weekend.
It comes after Crompton got behind the wheel for the car’s initial shakedown run at Toyota’s Altona facility in Melbourne in August.
Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Warren Luff will step in the car for the remaining sessions this weekend, and has done the bulk of the test laps at Winton.
Crompton, who made his last Bathurst 1000 starts 23 years ago, didn’t muck around in the Supra, and later labelled the opportunity “impossible to describe” in a 7Sport social post.
"It's a pretty special moment," Crompton told the broadcast from the cockpit.
"I think this is a great thing for Australian motorsport, it's a great thing for Toyota.
"It's a wonderful thing to be able to introduce a new brand to the business. I've been lucky enough to represent both GM and Ford, both of which are wonderful manufacturers.
"To have this opportunity is bloody cool."
On-track action on Saturday begins with the co-driver exclusive Practice 5 at 10:05am local time, followed by Practice 6 at 1:10pm, and then the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 5:05pm.
